Writing · · hosting, EasyWP, how the checks work

EasyWP took the prices off its own site. Here is where they went.

My morning check kept saying EasyWP's page had changed. It had: the homepage now sends you to Namecheap or Spaceship, and the numbers live on a page that refuses scripts. The Internet Archive had a copy.

Every morning a script opens each pricing page I track and looks for the prices it saw the day before. When it cannot find them it does not guess; it writes "changed" next to the company and waits for me. This week it wrote "changed" next to EasyWP, Namecheap's managed WordPress product, every single morning.

The page it was opening is easywp.com, which is where EasyWP has printed its plans for years. I pulled the copy the script had saved (it keeps the pages it fetched, from a server in the United States, so I can look without loading anything from here in Mexico). One hundred and fifty kilobytes of HTML, one dollar sign on the whole page, and two buttons where the plan cards used to be: Try on Namecheap and Try on Spaceship. The prices had not changed. They had left.

Where they went

Namecheap's EasyWP pricing page has them, but that page answers a script with a Cloudflare interstitial ("Just a moment...") and nothing else. I do not try to get past those. What I do instead is ask the Internet Archive whether it has a recent copy of the same address. It had two, from 24 and 26 August, and the archive's crawler had been let in.

The captured page is a Next.js app, and apps like that ship their data inside the page. Every plan and term is in there in US cents, with the purchase price and the renewal price side by side. The figures, converted to dollars:

PlanMonthlyYearlyTwo years
Starter$0.00 first month, then $9.88$38.88, renews at $68.88$85.90, renews at $125.90
Turbo$13.88, renews at $18.88$61.88, renews at $114.88$115.10, renews at $207.10
Supersonic$20.88, renews at $26.88$78.88, renews at $138.88$140.50, renews at $245.50

Per month on the two-year term, which is the term this site uses for every host because it is the cheapest way in, Starter is $3.58 and renews at $5.25. Those are the same figures the site already had, because I had taken them from EasyWP's own pricing-update post from August 2025. What is new is the source: a pricing page rather than a blog post, and the footnote on it, which I had not seen quoted anywhere:

EasyWP promotional price applies to the first billing cycle only with renewals available at the regular price.

Spaceship sells the same thing at different prices

The other button leads to Spaceship, Namecheap's newer brand. The archive's capture of that page (25 August) shows the same three plans with a different offer on top: thirty days free, then $5.88 a month for Starter "after trial", renewing at $9.88. Turbo is $9.88 after the trial and renews at $18.88; Supersonic $12.88, renewing at $26.88. Same product, same renewal prices, cheaper first year if you buy it through the other door. I track the Namecheap page because that is where EasyWP sends the first button, but if you are buying monthly, the second door is worth a look.

What this did to the score

Earlier the same day I had moved EasyWP's Enshittification Index score from 8.5 to 20.9, because the only place I had seen its renewal price was a blog post, and a renewal price you can only find in a blog post is not "printed on the pricing page". That rule stands. The evidence changed: the pricing page prints it, so the cliff is halved again and the score is back to 8.5, which puts EasyWP in the clean-record band. Both moves are dated on the corrections page.

The morning check now reads Namecheap's page through the archive when the live page refuses it. As it turned out, the live page let the check's browser through later that afternoon, so the EasyWP page currently says "verified on the pricing page" with today's date. Either way works. Either way the source is the page, not me.

The figures in this post are what the pages said on the dates given. The tables linked from it are re-read every morning and may have moved since; the changes log has every move with a date and a receipt.
