The data

Everything on this site is computed from three JSON files, rebuilt every morning after the daily check. They are free to download and reuse under CC BY 4.0. Edition of 2026-08-28.

Files

/data/hosting.json
One record per tracked hosting plan (51 plans across 26 hosts): host, plan, tier (cheapest or popular), intro and term (per-month intro price and the months it requires), intro12 and renewal12 for 12-month billing where stated, renewal, free_domain_months, money_back_days, observed_at, confidence, and the source_url the numbers were read from.
/data/email.json
One record per email tool (18 vendors) with its counts_note (what the vendor counts as a contact) and its plans; each plan carries unit, free, key_limits and a tiers ladder of contact bands with monthly and annual prices, sends per month, and custom-pricing flags.
/data/enshittification.json
The Index: edition, the constants and formula, and one record per company with score, band, the four components (cliff, hikes, shrinks, opacity) with their inputs, dated_events, honor_roll, observed_since, and receipts (source URL plus the Internet Archive copy where we have one). Recompute any score from this file; the methodology is the specification.

How it is made

At 06:17 UTC a job reads each vendor's public pricing page as a visitor in the United States would see it, in US dollars. A price is published only after it has been seen on the page; a change is published only after a second check on a later day confirms it. Source pages are saved to the Internet Archive. Prices that could not be re-checked keep their last observation date, and the company page says why in plain words. Full detail: methodology and the glossary.

Reuse and citation

Attribution line: "Pricing data by RenewalCliff (https://renewalcliff.com), CC BY 4.0, edition 2026-08-28." Link the company page or the Index when you can; each carries the receipts for its numbers. If you find an error, tell us with the URL and the date and we will correct it the same day and log the correction on the changes page.

The affiliate registry inside the Index file lists every program we take part in and what it pays; we publish it so that anyone reusing the scores can check that no commercial relationship touches them.
